Financial Status Report for the Restoration Project of the Synodal residence and home of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign"
With the blessing of Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, our website's editorial team is publishing a report on the financial status of the restoration project for the Synodal Residence in New York. Read it in PDF format here.
In August 2024, His Eminence Bishop Nicholas addressed the clergy and flock with a special message, in which he noted that:
"This building, in which our miraculous icon has been kept for many years, in which the glorification of saints, including the New Martyrs and Confessors of our Church, and the enthronement of our metropolitans took place, in which Bishops' Councils were held with the active participation of such ascetics as St. John, Archbishop of Shanghai, the miracle worker of San Francisco - this building, which is the center of both the joys of our Church and the solution of its problems, whose walls have absorbed our entire history, has fallen into extreme disrepair and is in need of major repairs. In order to carry out this important work and preserve this House of the Mother of God, the spiritual and administrative center of the Russian Church Abroad, it is necessary to raise 15 million dollars. Thank God, a special commission has made inquiries and prepared plans phased renovations approved by the Synod of Bishops.
In light of all this, as Chairman of the Synod of Bishops, I address the faithful of our Church, its friends, public organizations, and benefactors with a heartfelt request and appeal: open your hearts and make your contribution to the repair and strengthening of our Holy Church! Remember that the House of the Mother of God, the building of the Synod of Bishops, is also your home; it is the center of our Holy Church, leading each of us to eternal salvation.
I believe that the Most Blessed Mother of God and Saint John, the great archpastor of the Russian Diaspora, will not abandon us."
His Eminence asked that the profound gratitude of the Most Reverend members of the Synod of Bishops, as well as his own, be conveyed to all the parishes, public organizations and benefactors who responded to his heartfelt request for help.
The report shows that reserve funds were also used to cover expenses and prevent late payments. This year, which marks the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God in the United States, collections and repair and construction work will, God willing, continue.
