NEW YORK: 5 December, 2025
On the feast day of the Synodal Cathedral of Our Lady “of the Sign,” divine services will be held by members of the Synod of the Church Abroad along with representatives of Local Orthodox Churches
On Wednesday, 10 December, 2025, the feast of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God “of the Sign,” Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at the Synodal Residence of the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in New York, and on the eve — all-night vigil.
The main shrine of the Russian diaspora — the miraculous Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God, brought from Russia in 1920 — will be present in the cathedral. It is expected that, in addition to the reverend members of the Synod of Bishops, His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of ROCOR, will concelebrate with archpastors from the Antiochian, Serbian, and Bulgarian Orthodox Churches, clergy of the East American Diocese, and guests in holy orders.
During Divine Liturgy, the archpastors, clergy, and faithful will prayerfully commemorate the 100th anniversary of the repose of the hierarchs and confessors: Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, and Archbishop Jonah, Bishop of Hankou, the Manchurian Miracle-Worker. At a festive meal organized by the cathedral congregants, a brief report will be presented on the veneration of St Jonah in the Russian diaspora, which led to his canonization in 1996.
The final session of the Synod of Bishops this year, from December 9 to 11 chaired by the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, is timed to coincide with the patronal feast.
