JERUSALEM: 27 March, 2025
Monastic tonsures are performed in the monasteries of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in the Holy Land

On the feast of the First and Second Finding of the Head of the Forerunner of the Lord John at Ascension of the Lord Convent on the Mount of Olives, Jerusalem, Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), Chief of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem (Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia), tonsured Nun Lyubov (Zastavskaya) into the minor schema. Sister Lyubov received the monastic name of Judith, in honor of the Old Testament Righteous Judith of Bethulia.

The new tonsure carries out the obedience of chief sacristan and head of the gold embroidery workshop, and reading on the kliros.

In his instructive speech addressed to the new nun, Archimandrite Roman said, "Just as the Old Testament Judith saved her people by beheading the Babylonian commander Holofernes, who attacked Her city, so we, allegorically, must cut off the head of the serpent that attacks and tempted Eve and tempts us."

On Thursday, March 20, in the cave Church of St Chariton the Confessor in the ancient Lavra of the same name, Rassophore monk Avenir (Zarutsky), a brother of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, was tonsured. When tonsured into the minor schema, he received the name Anastassy, in honor of the Monk Anastasius the Sinaite.

Father Anastassy is the official photographer of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission. He carries out obedience in its monasteries and helps the Chief of Mission.

Father Anastassy spent three days of prayer at the monastery of St Chariton, and then returned to the Mount of Olives to continue his labors for the good of the Church.
