An exhibition dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the tragic death of Grand Duke Sergius Alexandrovich opens in the Canadian Diocese
On Sunday, February 16, 2025, a thematic photo exhibition dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the tragic murder of Grand Duke Sergius Alexandrovich opened at the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God in “Berezki” in Jacksons Point, ON. The son of Emperor Alexander II and spouse of the Venerable Martyr Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna, His Imperial Highness was the Governor-General of Moscow and the first chairman of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society. On February 17, 1905, he fell victim to a revolutionary terrorist in the heart of the ancient capital, near the Nikolsky Gate of the Kremlin.
On the day of remembrance, the clergy of the church performed a pannikhida for the murdered Grand Duke.
The exhibition, organized by the efforts of the rector of the parish of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, Priest Maxim Abroskin, presents not only photographs of the Grand Duke and his family, but also letters, documents and books dedicated to him. The main task of the exhibition is missionary: to acquaint the English-speaking audience and all parishioners of the church with the life of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich in the context of Russian history. The lecture of the rector aroused great interest among those present. After the lecture, the guests were offered a luncheon, during which the conversation continued.
