The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church officially includes St John of Shanghai and San Francisco in its calendar
On Tuesday, 4 July, 2023, the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, convening at the Patriarchal Palace and chaired by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania, the name of St John (Maximovich) of Shanghai and San Francisco the Miracle-worker was officially included in the ecclesiastical calendar of the ROC. In addition, liturgical texts in his honor was adopted along with the iconographical representation of the saint. As in the Russian Orthodox Church, his feast day is to be celebrated on 2 July.
During the meeting, new hierarchs were elected for the ROC and other liturgical texts accepted, including for St Joseph the Hesychast.
