NEW YORK: 16 September 2022
The Council of Bishops continues its work
On Wednesday, 14 September, 2022, the participants of the Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia heard reports by ruling bishops of the Dioceses of Canada, Mid-America, Great Britain and Western American. The archpastors then heard a report by His Grace Bishop Irenei, Secretary of Inter-Orthodox Relations of the Synod of Bishops, on events in the Orthodox world since the last Council of Bishops, which led to serious deliberation on the joys and problems in the life of the Church of Christ.
On Thursday, 15 September, the third day of the Council, the session was held at the New Kursk-Root Hermitage in Mahopac, NY, where they were warmly received by retired Bishop Jerome (Shaw) and the Parish Rector Priest George Temidis. After venerating the holy icons, the archpastors continued their work in the church hall.
After the morning session and a luncheon, magnificently prepared by the parish sisterhood, the Council members and their associates examined the church building and visited the cemetery, where Archbishop Seraphim (Ivanov), who died 35 years ago, is interred. The bishops then continued their deliberations, discussing various Synodal departments and stavropighial parishes (subject directly to the President of the Synod of Bishops).
On Friday, 16 September, meetings will continue, concentrating on issues raised by Bishop Irenei. It is expected that the Council will hear a report by Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), Chief of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem under the Russian Church Abroad, and heads of other Synodal institutions.
