Pentecost at the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem of the Church Abroad
The view from Ascension of the Lord Convent on the Mt of Olives is that of another holy mountain: Zion, where the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles.
The festive celebration of Pentecost began on Saturday evening, June 6, 2020, in all the churches of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Heading the celebrations at Ascension Convent was Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), Chief of the Mission, joined by Archimandrite Vasily (Druzhinets), Hegumen Iona (Galishnikov) and Deacn Vyachslav (Batalsky).
In accordance with tradition, after Divine Liturgy, vespers with the reading of the Kneeling Prayers was performed. The prayers, written by St Basil the Great, were heard by Abbess Varvara (Novikova) and her nuns and a small number of pilgrims.
