The monasteries of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem perform the Thursday matins of the fifth week of Great Lent

Despite the closing of the monasteries in the Holy Land due to the COVID19 virus, divine services in them continue. On Wednesday evening, April 1, 2020, the fifth week of Great Lent, the great canon of St Andrew of Crete was read during matins in its fullness.

Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), Chief of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, performed the service at Ascension of the Lord Convent on the Mount of Olives. Archimandrite Vasily (Druzhinets) and Abbot Jonah (Galishnikov) participated as well. In accordance with the Typikon, Fr Jonah read the Life of St Mary of Egypt.
