On October 25, 2019, His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, President of the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, while on a visit to the United States, went to the Synodal residence of the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, the Synodal Cathedral of Our Lady "of the Sign" in New York, where he venerated the main holy relic of the Russian diaspora, the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God. Vladyka Hilarion was welcomed by His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, Vicar of the Eastern American Diocese and Deputy Secretary of the Synod of Bishops of ROCOR, on behalf of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York. The hierarchs shared tea, and were joined by Protopriest Serafim Gan, Chancellor of the Synod of Bishops, Protopriest Andrei Sommer, Dean of the cathedral, Hegumen Nikodim (Balyasnikov) of St Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in NY, and Subdeacon Vyacheslav Li, who is accompanying Metropolitan Hilarion on his visit. To mark the occasion, Bishop Nicholas gave Vladyka Hilarion a copy of the icon of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia painted by the late renowned iconographer Archimandrite Cyprian (Pyzhov) in 1981.
