An extraordinary session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is held
On December 17, 2018, the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra of the Holy Dormition hosted an extraordinary session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, as reported by the Press Service of the UOC.
The Synod responded to the “unification council” held in Kiev on December 15, and adopted an Appeal to the Faithful Flock of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
By decree of the Synod, Metropolitan Simeon (Shostatsky) and Metropolitan Alexander (Drabinko) were suspended from serving, having violated the decision of the UOC to participate in a “council” with schismatics.
The Synod also made a series of personnel decisions.
The meeting was presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onouphry of Kiev and All Ukraine.
Before the meeting began, the members of the Synod and representatives of the hierarchy of the UOC prayed during Divine Liturgy in the Far Caves of the Lavra. Metropolitan Onouphry officiated.
The permanent members of the Holy Synod are: Metropolitan Agafangel of Odessa and Izmailsk; Metropolitan Lazar of Simferopol and Crimea; Metropolitan Mark of Khust and Vinogradovsk; Metropolitan Ilarion of Donetsk and Mariupol; Metropolitan Feodor of Kamenets-Podolsk and Gorodoksk; Metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chernobyl; Metropolitan Mitrofan of Lugansk and Alchevsk, Secretary of the Holy Synod of the UOC, and Metropolitan Antony of Borispol and Brovarsk, Chancellor of the UOC. Temporary members of the Synod are: Meteropolitan Melety of Chernovitsk and Bukovino; Archbishop Efrem of Bergyansk and Primorsk, and Bishop Nafanail of Volynia and Lutsk.
