St Savva of Storozhev Stavropighial Monastery hosted a memorial service for Bishop Vasily (Preobrazhensky) of Mozhaisk, Abbot of the monastery from 1908-1913, where a plaque in his memory was consecrated. Protopriest Andre Papkov initiated the project; he is a direct descendant of the revered hierarch. Late last year, he appealed to His Eminence Archbishop Feognost, Prior of Holy Trinity-St Sergius Lavra and President of the Synodal Department of Monasteries and Monastics of the Russian Orthodox Church with a request to reestablish a plaque over the burial site of his relative. Vladyka Feognost approved the request and appointed an overseer. The project was initiated with the blessing of Archimandrite Savva (Fateev), Prior of St Savva Monastery. Polina Bakhtina, architect of the monastery, prepared the plaque according to similar ones from the late 19th and early 20th centuries and accords with the style of Nativity of the Mother of God Church. Restorers and stonemasons from Holy Trinity-St Sergius Lavra executed the project. On the day of the performance of the pannikhida, the plaque was consecrated by Fr Savva, Fr Andre, who is the Senior Priest of Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral in Chicago, IL, and Priest Mikhail Asmus of Protection of the Mother of God Church in Krasnoe Selo, Moscow. Praying at the service was Fr Andre’s matushka, Natalia Papkova and their daughter Xenia Papkova. monasterium.ru
