Archbishop Mark of Berlin and Germany participates in a Synodal Liturgical Commission meeting

On February 2, 2018, the first plenary session of the Synodal Liturgical Commission of 2018 was held at Holy Trinity-St Sergius Lavra in Sergiev Posad, Russia, chaired by His Eminence Metropolitan Konstantin of Petrozavodsk and Karelia. Also participating was His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Berlin and Germany, Vice President of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.

Metropolitan Konstantin opened the session by giving each member a copy of his new book Apokalipsisy revoljutsii (The Apocalypses of Revolution).

The commission reviewed a draft from the Synod of Bishops titled “Akathists in the Life of Prayer of the Church,” prepared by the Inter-Council Presence. A response to the document by the commission was then drafted.

Official letters addressed to the commission were also read and considered. The commission approved an accounting of its work in 2017, and introduced amendments to its agenda for 2018. Recommendations on the methodology of composing divine services were then confirmed. The services to St Aristokl of Moscow was reviewed and edited. The service text will be submitted for confirmation to the Holy Synod.

Work was also done on divine services dedicated to the Holy Martyrs of Bykovsk, St Misail of Abalatsk and St Paisy of the Holy Mountain. The service to St Polikarp of Bryansk was relegated to the Bryansk Diocese for further work.

The next plenary session of the commission will be held on March 29 of this year.
