The Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign” Returns to the Synodal Residence of the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad
On Monday evening, October 10, 2016, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign” was greeted at John F Kennedy Airport in New York City and brought to the Synodal residence of the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Arriving in New York, His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, Deputy Secretary of the Synod of Bishops, performed a moleben before the icon, and commemorated with brotherly love the hierarchs of the Metropoliates of Kursk and Mordovia who welcomed the miracle-working icon on its visit to Russia along with a delegation of clergymen of the Church Abroad.
Vladyka Nicholas spoke to several members of the Synodal administration and expressed the hope that “all petitions that lead to salvation” be fulfilled for those who bowed in heart and knee before the Queen of Heaven, Who in the form of this most ancient of holy icons of the Russian Church visited the Orthodox faithful of the Kursk and Moldovian Metropoliates.
This coming 19th Sunday of Pentecost, the Kursk-Root Icon will be available in the Synodal Cathedral “of the Sign” in New York.
