On October 3-4, 2014, His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia officiated at the diocesan celebration of the 700 th anniversary of the birth of St Sergius of Radonezh and the 50 th anniversary of the glorification of St John of Kronstadt by the Russian Church Abroad. The celebrations were held at St Seraphim of Sarov Church in Monterey, CA. The relics of St Sergius and a belt belonging to Fr John of Kronstadt were made available to the worshipers for veneration. The celebrations preceded the Pastoral Conference of the Western American Diocese hosted by St Seraphim Church, whose rector of Fr George Kurtov. The main topics of the venue were “The Work and Directions of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of North America,” and a round table for Americans “Why Are We Part of the Russian Church Abroad?” This year marks the 80 th anniversary of the founding of the Western American Diocese.
