On August 30-31, 2014, Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY, hosted the celebration of St Job, Abbot and Miracle-worker of Pochaev. On Saturday, August 30, at 3:00 pm, a great procession of the cross began at Holy Trinity Cathedral towards Dormition Cemetery Church, which stands on a hill to the north of the monastery. Surrounded by venerated gravesites, a silver cupola and crosses shine atop this white stone church. The apodosis of the Dormition feast was being celebrated. There, the clergymen took a revered painted copy of the Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God and headed back to Holy Trinity Cathedral. The icon was then placed next to the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign" and a large icon of St Job in the center of the nave. This copy of the Pochaev Icon was sent from Pochaev Lavra in 1934 as a “Blessing of American Rus.” An akathist was then served to St Job, led by His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, Vice Secretary of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. After the rule of confession was read, an evening trapeza luncheon was offered to the reading of passages from St Tikhon of Zadonsk’s Spiritual Treasures. At 7 pm, all-night vigil was performed in the cathedral, headed by Bishop Nicholas. On Sunday, August 31, the feast day of SS Florus and Laurus, early Liturgy began at 7 am in the lower Church of St Job of Pochaev. Bishop Nicholas was greeted by the clergy at 9 am, and after the vesting of the hierarch and the reading of the hours, Divine Liturgy commenced. Specially commemorated at the service were Metropolitan Laurus (Skurla, +2008) of blessed memory; Archimandrite Florus (Vanko, +2013), and Archimandrite Sergei (Romberg), the late ecclesiarch of the monastery, who died on this day in 1992. In his sermon on the Gospel reading of the day, His Grace stressed the need to share not only material goods with the needy, but to offer them the spiritual wealth we have in the Church. Before the veneration of the cross, Vladyka Nicholas expressed gratitude to Archimandrite Luke (Murianka) and the brethren for their labors, prayers and hospitality; he thanked the clergymen who gathered for the celebrations and for their support of Holy Trinity Monastery, and said a few words in memory of the aforementioned departed. That evening, Vladyka Nicholas met with a group of young people and encouraged them to support the monastery, its brethren and their Church. Photo: HolyTrinitySeminary.
