Hierarchal Liturgy Concludes Holy Cross Monastery’s Annual Pilgrimage
On Saturday, September 28, and Sunday, September 29, 2013, Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, WV, held its annual Pilgrimage Weekend. Pilgrims gathered at the monastery’s outdoor chapel, where His Grace Bishop Peter of Cleveland, Administrator of the Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America, celebrated Divine Liturgy. Vladyka Peter was joined in the service by the monastery’s abbot, His Grace Vicar Bishop George of Mayfield, as well as monastery and visiting clergy from the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and various other jurisdictions.
Upon the conclusion of the Liturgy, Bishop George expressed his gratitude to Bishop Peter for visiting the monastery for the first time since 1979, when the area was still thickly forested and home to a family of pious Christians. His Grace then presented his guest with a panaghia. In return, Bishop Peter thanked his host, Bishop George, and the brotherhood for their hospitality and invitation to visit the monastery.
A gramata from His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York was presented to Luke and Alexandra Gephart, longtime benefactors who provided much-needed financial support to the monastery.
After the service, the clergy and pilgrims traveled to nearby Holy Spirit Antiochian Church, where a festal banquet was held in the parish hall.
