St Tikhon Orthodox State University Will Host the Presentation of Protopriest Andrei Sommer’s Book From West to East: Youth Ministry in the Russian Church Abroad
In connection with the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Act of Canonical Communion between the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate and the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, a book was published on working with youth in the diaspora, contemporary missionary movement and the forms and methods of youth ministry with the goal of bringing them to church and rearing them in the spirit of Russian Orthodoxy.
The author of From West to East: Youth Ministry in the Russian Church Abroad is Protopriest Andrei Sommer, Vice President of the Synodal Youth Committee of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Within its pages we discover the history of youth missionary work abroad, beginning with the early 20th century to the present day. This volume is not only an excursion into history, but is a methodological textbook, where the reader can find a broad scope of materials devoted to the many forms and methods of serving young people in the Russian diaspora; Orthodox youth groups, scout movements, summer children’s camps, symposia, diocesan and all-diaspora conferences, and recommended means of organizing youth projects and events.On November 8, 2012, at 6:30 pm, St Tikhon Orthodox State University in Moscow, Russia, will host the presentation of the book.
