On Sunday, June 26, 2011, the second Sunday of Pentecost and the feast day of All Russian Saints, His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, celebrated Divine Liturgy at the Synodal Cathedral of Our Lady “of the Sign” in New York. Joining him were His Eminence Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada and His Grace Bishop Jerome of Manhattanm, along with the Cathedral’s clergymen. After Liturgy, Vladyka Hilarion announced that Archdeacon Eugene Burbelo, having served devotedly and piously under the Primates of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia over the course of 56 years, had submitted a request to retire. The First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad expressed the profound gratitude of the hierarchy to Fr Eugene and invoked Divine blessings upon him, and gave him a parting gift.
