Participants of the Historic Visit of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God To Russia Share Their Impressions With Three Long Island Parishes
On Sunday, November 22, 2009, at 5 pm, at Intercession Parish Hall in Glen Cove, NY, a presentation was made on the historic visit of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God to Russia. Members of the Synodal delegation Protopriest Serafim Gan, Rector of St Seraphim Church in Sea Cliff; Protopriest George Zelenin, Rector of Archangel Michael Church in Paterson, NJ; and Priest Alexandre Antchoutine, Rector of Intercession Church, told of the preparations for this historic visit, the meetings, the holy sites visited and the veneration of the icon by the faithful. Deacon Eugene Kallaur, Archivist of the Synod of Bishops and clergyman of St Seraphim Church, made a presentation of photographs and videos of the event. Protopriest Leonid Kishkovsky, Rector of Kazan Icon of the Mother of God Church in Sea Cliff (OCA) and the parishioners of the three parishes were in attendance.
At the end of the event, it was announced that next year, the Kursk-Root Icon may visit Kiev and Kursk. This will be arranged by clerics of the German Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia headed by His Eminence Archbishop Mark.
