The Synodal Cathedral Choir Prepares for the 150 th Anniversary Celebration of the Birth of AD Kastal'sky
As reported earlier, this year marks the 150 th anniversary of the birth and 80 th anniversary of the death of the eminent composer of liturgical music, Alexander Dimitrievich Kastal'sky. As the Director of the Moscow Synod School and Director of the Synodal Choir, Kastal'sky developed the Russian style of harmonization of ancient chants.
To commemorate his enormous contribution to church singing, the Cathedral Choir of the Synod of Bishops, under the direction of Peter A Fekula, will sing a number of his compositions during all-night vigil on Saturday, November 18, at 6 pm and at Divine Liturgy on Sunday, November 19, at 9:30 am. His Eminence Metropolitan Laurus, the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, will officiate at the services.
Below are photographs of the latest choir rehearsal.
