The
Superior of St. Johns Convent is Elevated to Abbess
The celebration
of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, in and of itself a solemn occasion,
was given greater significance in the cathedral in the city
of Ishim by the elevation to the rank of abbess of the head
of St. Johns Convent, Nun Alexandra.
The Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside
of Russia on 27 November 2002 confirmed the establishment
of the new convent dedicated to St. John of Shanghai and San
Francisco the Miracle-worker in the Diocese of Ishim and Siberia
and gave its approval for the elevation of Mother Alexandra
into the rank of abbess.
Upon presenting Abbess Alexandra with the staff, His Grace
Bishop Evtikhii of Ishim and Siberia told her that this day
must be seen as the birthday of the Convent of St. John, and
that he wishes and hopes that the Convent will exist until
the end of time, until the Second Glorious Coming of Christ,
and that it never be tarnished with the ills that plague our
Holy Orthodox Faith which we celebrate today.
