APPEAL of the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church
Outside of Russia
in Connection with the Terrorist Act in Moscow
The tragic seizure of many hostages in Moscow is yet another
reminder that we all walk under God, that at any moment we can
find ourselves at death's door.
In these days of crisis our hearts turn to the hostages and
their families. We grieve for them not only because we sympathize
with every person in danger, but because these hostages are
Russian people, because Russia once again suffers a blow, once
again the country waits, prays, suffers...
At one time, Russia was called the "House of the Most-Holy
Mother of God." We call upon the faithful children of our
Church to turn their hearts to the Mother of God in prayer for
the Russian land and the Russian people, especially for the
hostages. I ask our Reverend Fathers to serve a moleben before
the icon of the Royal Mother of God
