On the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, His Eminence Archbishop
Mark performed the Rite of Orthodoxy in the Cathedral of the Holy
New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia in Munich, following Divine
Liturgy. His Eminence was joined by the Cathedral clergy: Protopriest
Nikolai Artemoff, Priest George Seide and Protodeacon Georg Kobro,
who read the anathemas, commemorated the reposed defenders of the
Faith of Christ and intoned the traditional Many Years'.
The men's St Job of Pochaev monastery of Munich published a booklet
for this occasion, "Rite of Orthodoxy," in a crimson-rimmed
Slavonic typeface.
During the trapeza luncheon the followed, the parish congratulated
their archpastor on his recent namesday. The heavenly protector
of Archbishop Mark is St Mark the Ascetic. Two hundred chapters
on spiritual law and 226 chapters entitled "Those who hope
to justify themselves with works" of St Mark of Egypt are included
in Dobrotoliubiye (the Philokalia).
The Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts on the following Wednesdays
are being performed in the evening. The faithful approach the Eucharist
having performed a complete fast from the evening before. Despite
the very severe fasting required of the communicants, there are
usually over 30 of them. The Liturgy is performed in the evening,
for which it was specifically designed, and makes a lasting impression
on those who attend.
