Appeal of Archbishop Hilarion of Sydney and the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand, President of the Russian Orthodox Youth Committee of the Synod of Bishops

Dear in the Lord Friends and Donors of the Russian Orthodox Youth Committee!

It is with joy that we report that, with God's help, the Russian Orthodox Youth Committee has published its new illustrated calendar for 2005.

This year's calendar is dedicated to the blessed memory of His Eminence Metropolitan Philaret, the third First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (1964-1985), with whose blessing the Russian Orthodox Youth Committee was founded. Until his very death on November 21, 1985, Metropolitan Philaret, served as overseer and source of inspiration for the publishing work of the ROYC, which was headed at the time by his personal assistant and cell-attendant, Protodeacon Nikita Chakiroff. Through the hard work of Protodeacon Nikita, it was possible to publish and enormous number of spiritually-beneficial books, albums and calendars, disseminated throughout the diaspora and in Russia itself.

We hope that the 2005 Calendar will serve as a worthy commemorative item for the life and ecclesiastical activity of the late Vladyka Philaret.
