The people of Kursk bid farewell to the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign"

On the morning of October 3, 2019, the people of the city of Kursk, Russia, bid farewell to the visiting Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign.” His Eminence Metropolitan German of Kursk and Rylsk headed moleben services before the miracle-working icon at Znamensky Cathedral, and was joined by his diocesan clergymen.

Under the singing of hymns to the Queen of Heaven and the peal of bells, the archpastor blessed the city with the icon. The delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia headed by His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan then took the Kursk-Root Icon to the Diocese of Zheleznogorsk. Despite the early hour, a multitude of residents of Kursk were present, expressing the hope that the holy image will once again visit next year. Some 100,000 faithful venerated the icon this year, among them people of Kursk and pilgrims from other regions in Russia.

During the visit of the icon to Kursk, Znamensky Cathedral was open around the clock to allow believers to venerate the image of the Mother of God. Molebens and akathists were constantly performed before the holy icon.
