Namesday Celebration of Archbishop Mark of Berlin and Germany

On the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, His Eminence Archbishop Mark performed the Rite of Orthodoxy in the Cathedral of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia in Munich, following Divine Liturgy. His Eminence was joined by the Cathedral clergy: Protopriest Nikolai Artemoff, Priest George Seide and Protodeacon Georg Kobro, who read the anathemas, commemorated the reposed defenders of the Faith of Christ and intoned the traditional Many Years'.

The men's St Job of Pochaev monastery of Munich published a booklet for this occasion, "Rite of Orthodoxy," in a crimson-rimmed Slavonic typeface.

During the trapeza luncheon the followed, the parish congratulated their archpastor on his recent namesday. The heavenly protector of Archbishop Mark is St Mark the Ascetic. Two hundred chapters on spiritual law and 226 chapters entitled "Those who hope to justify themselves with works" of St Mark of Egypt are included in Dobrotoliubiye (the Philokalia).

The Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts on the following Wednesdays are being performed in the evening. The faithful approach the Eucharist having performed a complete fast from the evening before. Despite the very severe fasting required of the communicants, there are usually over 30 of them. The Liturgy is performed in the evening, for which it was specifically designed, and makes a lasting impression on those who attend.
