The Services of His Eminence Metropolitan Laurus

On the third week of Great Lent, His Eminence Metropolitan Laurus led the Pastoral Conference and Retreat of the Diocese of Eastern America and New York, which concluded with a Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts at St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Lakewood (Howell), NJ, on March 30. At the Conference, His Eminence told the participants about the last meeting of the Pre-Council Committee of the IV All-Diaspora Council, which will include clergy and laity, tentatively scheduled for May of next year in San Francisco. Responding to questions from the Conferees, His Eminence Vladyka also told of the latest stages in the discussions with the Moscow Patriarchate.

His Eminence performed the services of the Veneration of the Precious Cross at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Jordanville, attended by an enormous gathering of pilgrims. His Eminence Vladyka was joined in the services by the monastic clergymen and clerical teachers of Holy Trinity Seminary.

On April 6, the mid-Lenten Wednesday, His Eminence Metropolitan Laurus departed on a trip to Venezuela to conduct services at the parishes of Caracas on the feast of the Annunciation and the Sunday of St John of the Ladder. His Eminence is accompanied by Hieromonk Nicholas (Perekrestov), Protodeacon Victor Lochmatov and Subdeacon Nicholas Olhovsky. On April 8, His Eminence Vladyka will visit the Church of the Sign of the Mother of God in Valencia, where he will serve a funerary matins, and the following morning, Divine Liturgy and a universal pannikhida.
