NEW YORK: September 23, 2005

A Pannikhida for General Anton Denikin to be Held at the Synodal Cathedral

In accordance with the wishes of Marina Antonovna Denikina and by authority of President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation, the remains of General Anton Ivanovich Denikin, and of philosopher Ivan Aleksandrovich Ilyin, will be transferred from September 28 to October 3.

As part of this event, a pannikhida will be performed over the coffin containing the remains of General Denikin at the Synodal Cathedral of Our Lady of the Sign, with the antiphonal singing of a male choir under the directions of Peter A Fekula and the great choir of Sretensky Monastery of Moscow. After the pannikhida, a commemorative trapeza will be held at the Synod hall with the participation of the Synodal Administration and numerous guests. That evening, a formal reception is scheduled at the Russian Consulate in New York.

The following day, the coffin will be flown to Paris, where the daughter of General Denikin, Marina A Denikina-Grey, resides, and from there to Moscow. The burial of General Denikin and Ivan Ilyin will be performed at Donskoy Monastery cemetery on October 3.
